Associate Program Director; Science Education
Carleen is a plant biologist specializing in cellular biology and host-pathogen interactions. While obtaining her Masters at UCSD, she served as a teaching assistant for a number of upper-division undergraduate biology courses (genetics, biochemical techniques, and metabolic biochemistry). Her experiences have led her to pursue teaching in science, encouraging students to take a more interactive, intuitive, and comprehensive approach to understanding biological systems. Carleen now acts as the Associate Program Director of Boz Institute’s educational programs, striving to help students gain a more integrated understanding of complex biological interactions and transform their ideas into testable research hypotheses. Carleen's research focuses on viroid transmission within and between plants to better understand and seek solutions for managing these disease-causing agents.
